Report: Eagles give Nick Foles $1 million bonus despite just missing contract goal

With his future in Philadelphia uncertain, Eagles quarterback Nick Foles received a $1 million bonus despite falling short on contract requirements, according to an ESPN report. 

In order to earn the $1 million bonus, Foles needed to play in 33% of the team's snaps this season and Philadelphia made the playoffs. The backup signal caller fell just short of that goal, as his 357 snaps in 2018 accounted for 32.69% of the team's total — just four snaps shy of hitting the threshold. 

Foles spearheaded Philadelphia's run to a playoff berth to close out the regular season and helped the Eagles beat the Bears in the wild-card round before losing to the Saints in the divisional round. 

Foles threw for 1,413 yards and nine touchdowns in the Eagles' final four games and went 4-1 in five regular season starts — two of those coming in September and the last three in December. 

Eagles coach Doug Pederson said the team expects to stick with Carson Wentz, who was out with an injury as Foles excelled late in the season, as their starting quarterback. If Wentz returns as the starter, it's expected that the Eagles would decline the option in Foles' deal for 2019. 

The Eagles backup restructured his contract after winning Super Bowl LII last season to include a $2 million signing bonus and performance-based incentives.
